OVERVIEW
There is increasing evidence that energy of the future will come from sources other than fossil fuels. By moving now, you can effect a smooth transition of your company or municipality into renewable biomass as an energy source. The really good news is that after many years of research and development , the costs of renewable sources of energy are not only becoming competitive in the traditional sense, the secondary advantages can actually result in significantly lower net cost to society. Equally important is the fact that a wider distribution of many smaller generation sites has the additional advantages of:
Current annual power production in the United States is about 550,000 MWe with a total capacity of 794,000 MWe. The statistics on the massive amount of biomass waste (most of which would qualify as usable biomass) generated in the United States alone exceeds 8 billion tons per year. In theory this could provide in excess of 800,000 MWe of reliable, renewable energy at competitive rates using the Global Green Power, or GGP, system. However, it is more important to note that most of this generated waste is distributed widely depending on location of the industry and the population. Therefore, the optimal model for cost effective use of this waste in power generation (and avoidance of disposal) is the capability to site adequate size biomass gasification and electrical generation plants near waste collection facilities or the point of waste production. Often, that is also close to the locations of power consumption. The design of small (4 to 20 MWe) distributed power plants has features allowing co-production of waste heat and gases for industrial and agricultural processes.
